Your school, next to the peers your board names.
Benchmark your own school against same-size, same-region peers — operating margin, tuition dependency, reserves, endowment ratio — and read a peer school’s filings before it comes up in a board meeting.
$250 a year, or $100 the first year for the founding 100. Cancel anytime from your account.
The read you want before the next board strategy conversation.
You’re a sitting Head. Before the next board strategy conversation, you want to know where your school actually sits on operating margin, tuition dependency, endowment ratio — against the schools your board names every meeting.
HiveCheck joins nine years of your own school’s IRS Form 990 filings to a same-size, same-region peer cohort — the cohort you can recut inside the report — and puts every metric on the same page against peer p25 / p50 / p75 / p90, with the peer count disclosed on every panel.
Where you sit against the peers your board names.
Operating margin, tuition dependency, reserves, endowment ratio, comp ratio — nine years of your own school’s filings against a same-size, same-region peer cohort, with the percentiles a board would ask for.
Read a peer’s filings before it comes up.
Pull any of the 1,620 schools in coverage — the peer your board is about to invoke, the school that opened a new middle-school building last year, the one whose Head just left. Read the nine-year filing picture before the meeting.
An outside read on a school across the table.
A prospective merger, a shared-services agreement, a facilities partnership. Same public filings, joined into one report, before the exploratory conversation gets serious.
Paying capacity, competition, and demand.
A 45-minute drive-time catchment: ZCTA-grain demographics, the K-12 competitive universe, and a tuition proxy against local paying capacity. The market context to your enrollment story.
Trustees and consultants read the same public record. From the outside.
Boards evaluate strategy. Consultants advise on strategy. Both want the same view a sitting Head has — where the school sits against its peer cohort on the numbers that show up in the 990 — without waiting for the next finance committee packet to be drafted.
HiveCheck is the same read from the outside. A trustee opens the report on their own school and on the two peers the board will invoke at the next meeting. A consultant opens it on the school they’ve just been engaged to advise. The nine-year 990 picture is on one page, sourced.
A board or consulting practice that wants ten seats on one invoice reads the team-license page instead — same report, ten seats, and the right to share it with the candidates a firm advises. See the team license.
What sitting Heads ask before they subscribe.
Can I benchmark my own school?
Yes — that’s the primary use for a sitting Head. If your school is in the 1,620-school coverage set (any U.S. independent K-12 school with at least one own IRS Form 990 filing), open your own report and read nine years of your own filings against a same-size, same-region peer cohort.
How are peers selected?
A same-size, same-region cohort by default — enrollment band, geography band. Every peer panel discloses the peer count (n_peers) and reports against p25 / p50 / p75 / p90 for each metric. You can recut the cohort inside the report if you want a different peer set.
What does it cost?
$250 a year for an individual subscription, or $100 the first year for the founding 100. Cancel anytime from your account — you keep access through the period you have paid for. A team license for a board or consulting practice is on the firms page.
How fresh is the data? What are the sources?
All public sources. IRS Form 990s through FY2024 for most schools (the IRS lag is real and we surface it on every report), U.S. Census ACS5, U.S. BLS at state level, BEA county-level personal income, HUD Fair Market Rent. Every metric on every page links back to the source.
Is my school in the coverage set?
If your school files an IRS Form 990 (most independent K-12 schools do), it’s in the 1,620-school coverage set. HiveCheck reads the same public filing the IRS publishes — no scraping, no supplemental disclosure from you. If your school is a rare non-990 filer or you don’t see it in the search, email contact@hivecheck.ai.
Read the peers before they come up.
Your own school, next to the peer cohort your board names, on the numbers the 990 already shows. Walk into the next strategy conversation having done the same read the board did.
