Short version

1. What we collect

When you create an account we ask for your name, your email address, and a self-reported organization and role (so we can tell whether you are a candidate, a search consultant, a trustee, or a sitting head). We record the date you signed up, the version of these documents you accepted, and your subscription and seat status.

Payments. Stripe processes all payments. Stripe collects your card details directly through its own secure checkout — we never see or store your full card number. What we do see and store is the billing metadata Stripe returns to us: card brand, last four digits, country, billing name and email, and the status of your subscription.

Product analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to measure aggregate page-level performance. Both are cookieless, do not collect personal information, and do not identify individual visitors. Because there is no personal data and no tracking cookie, we do not show a cookie-consent banner for analytics.

The sign-in cookie. Once you sign in, we set a single Supabase authentication cookie so you stay signed in between pages. This is a strictly necessary cookie for the product to work.

Your watchlist. If you save schools to your watchlist, that list is stored in your own browser (a small functional cookie), not on our servers, and is not sent to advertisers.

2. What we do NOT collect

We do not collect any data on students, parents, or employees of any school. All the school information HiveCheck shows is drawn from public U.S. government sources — IRS Form 990 filings, U.S. Census (ACS), the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, HUD, and the National Center for Education Statistics. No student records, no application files, no personnel files, no interior school data of any kind crosses the wall into HiveCheck.

3. Google Ads and advertising cookies

HiveCheck uses Google Ads to advertise the site and to measure which ads bring visitors here. To do that measurement, Google Ads sets advertising cookies in your browser when you visit hivecheck.ai. That is why this policy does not claim “no advertising cookies” — we want to be straight about it.

You can turn off Google Ads advertising cookies for hivecheck.ai on our Your Privacy Choices page. When you opt out, we simply do not load Google’s tag on the pages you visit. See Section 10 below for the details of how the opt-out works.

4. Subprocessors

We use a small set of vendors to run the product. Each processes data only to help us deliver the service:

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

5. How long we keep data

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active and for 90 days after you close it, so we can honor reactivation requests and clear up any billing issues. Billing records — the metadata around invoices and payments — are kept for seven years to meet U.S. tax record-keeping requirements. Deletion requests are honored within 30 days.

6. Your rights

You can email contact@hivecheck.ai from the address on your account to:

We aim to respond within a few business days and to complete deletion within 30 days.

7. Team subscriptions

If you use HiveCheck under a team subscription, your team administrator can see the email address on your seat, your seat status (invited, active, or removed), and the date you joined. Your team administrator does not see which schools you look up.

8. Children

HiveCheck is a tool for adult professionals and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, email contact@hivecheck.ai and we will delete it.

9. Where we operate

HiveCheck is a U.S. product, run from North Carolina and served from U.S. data centers, for U.S.-based customers. HiveCheck is not offered or directed to the European Union or the United Kingdom.

10. Your Privacy Choices

You can turn off Google Ads advertising cookies for hivecheck.ai at any time. Go to our Your Privacy Choices page and use the toggle. When you opt out, we set a small preference cookie in your browser (hc_ads_optout); our site reads that cookie before every page render and, when it is present, does not load the Google Ads tag at all. No tag, no advertising cookies. To turn measurement back on, return to the same page and toggle it off.

This choice is stored in the browser you set it in. If you clear your cookies or use a different browser, set the preference again.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change — a change that meaningfully affects what we collect, how we use it, or your choices — we will give at least 30 days’ advance notice by email to the address on file, by a prominent in-product notice, or both, and we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
